Wear & Tear Signs for Forklift Tires

Identifying dangerous wear before it's too late:

  • Missing Chunks or Blow-Outs: Replace immediately.
  • Cushion Tires: Look for wear to the top of the size numbers, e.g., "21" in "21x7x15".
  • Solid Pneumatic Tires: Replace when wear reaches the wear ring or band.

Additional Wear & Tear Signs:

  • Flat Spots: Repeated wear at one spot, often caused by sharp turns or uneven floor.
  • Skid Marks/Balding: Over- or under-inflated tires, affecting stopping power and brakes.
  • Cracking/Chunking: From debris or temperature swings.
  • Oil/Grease Stains: Oil and grease can eat away tire rubber, affecting forklift control.

Spotting wear & tear early keeps operators and other personnel safe. These signs typically show up earlier than wear to the top of the numbers/wear ring, allowing you to prevent accidents before they occur.

80% of tires are similar on every forklift. Don't discount a sign because "your tires don't do that." They might!

How to Avoid Wear & Tear:

  • Good Maintenance: Preventative maintenance extends forklift lifespan and keeps tires clean & properly inflated.
  • Regular Checks: Encourage forklift operators to check their tires weekly, whether on Mondays or Fridays, whichever works best for your operations.

By taking these proactive measures, you can significantly reduce the risk of accidents caused by worn-out forklift tires.
