How to maintain forklift tires

Here are some essential points for maintaining forklift tires:

forklift tires

Proper Tire Inflation:Ensure that both tires, when mounted together, are inflated to the same pressure. Uneven inflation can damage the tires.Regularly check for leaks after inflating the tires and repair any leaks promptly.Inflate tires according to the "Pressure-Load Correspondence Table" specified in current national standards.Maintain normal internal pressure during use, and regularly check tire pressure if the forklift is operated for extended periods.

Tire Pressure Management:Over-inflation can lead to accelerated tire wear.Under-inflation can cause tire deformation.Use a pressure gauge regularly to ensure tire pressure is within the specified range.

Tire Wear and Damage Inspection:Inspect tires regularly for uneven wear, bubbles, cracks, or any damage exceeding 25mm in length that exposes the tire's cord ply, as per GB/T 16178-2011.Replace tires promptly if any significant damage is found.

Driving and Operating Practices:Avoid excessive braking and sharp turns, especially on poor road surfaces, to minimize tire wear and the risk of damage.Reduce speed when driving on rough roads and take caution to avoid hitting sharp or hard objects.Control tire temperature by avoiding overheated tires during high-speed driving and taking breaks as needed.

Tire Storage and Handling:Store tires indoors to protect them from direct sunlight and rain.Keep tires away from heat sources, electrical generating equipment, and ozone-producing areas to prevent aging.

Store tires vertically; do not stack them flat or hang them, as this can cause deformation.Use tires in the order of production and inventory to ensure they are not stored for more than three years.

Load Management:Adhere strictly to the tire load limits specified in national standards and avoid overloading.Distribute cargo evenly to reduce uneven tire wear. For tires with high ply ratings and heavy loads, control the driving speed within an appropriate range.

Tire Rotation:Regularly rotate tires to ensure even wear and extend their lifespan. For forklifts, perform tire rotation during vehicle maintenance.

Safety Precautions:Maintain appropriate following distances and stable speeds to reduce sudden acceleration and braking, which can wear tires faster.Do not use methods such as deflating or watering down hot tires; instead, allow them to cool naturally in a shaded area.
